Description
HEAD OF A ROYAL STATUE IN DIORITE ATTRIBUTED TO THUTMOSIS III
Egyptian art, 18th Dynasty, reign of Thutmose III, 1479–1425 BC.
A male head depicting the king wearing the white Hedjet mitre of Upper Egypt, adorned with a partially damaged uraeus. The face is finely sculpted, with elongated eyebrows above almond-shaped eyes, the eyelids rimmed and extended by a line of kohl. The nose is very slightly aquiline and its tip is missing. The mouth, with full lips, curves into a very slight smile, with pronounced corners. At the back, there is an uninscribed dorsal support on which the top of the headdress rests, the space in between being left in reserve.
The break is at the top of the neck; the tips of the crown and the dorsal support are missing, as are the tip of the nose and a portion of the chin; the outline of the uraeus and part of the antihelix of the right ear are chipped.
Height: 36.5 cm
