LARGE EMBROIDERED TOWEL
Ottoman Turkey, 19th century
Multicoloured silk and metallic threads on cotton, covered with a motif of vases of flowers repeated along the length in two juxtaposed rows, each vase inscribed in Arabic with ‘ma sha’ Allah’, the lower edge decorated with palmettes, the borders stitched with a metallic ribbon; signs of wear; minor restorations; colours well preserved.
Dimensions: 65 x 140 cm
Inscription: ما شاء الله (ma sha’ Allah) – ‘as Allah wills’
