Sword of the Estates or of the Commissioner of War, with a chiselled brass hilt showing traces of silver plating; two cross-guards terminating in a ram’s head; an urn-shaped pommel; a shaft of ebony, fluted, adorned with two brass escutcheons; blade rectangular in cross-section at the heel and lozenge-shaped over two-thirds of its length: the first section engraved with trophies and an altar of the Fatherland, and marked: ‘For the Fatherland’; leather scabbard, two brass fittings, pommel fitted with two rings. (Leather added later; this model was originally entirely silver-plated).
