Description
Imperial Guard sailor’s sabre, with a ribbed round brass hilt; the side guards are heart-shaped, the front one engraved with an anchor; quillon ending in a ball, puncised on the top: ‘DUC’; round pommel with a skirt engraved with a border; tang covered in leather with a single brass filigree; blade strongly curved, one side hollow and the back semi-circular, engraved on each side with a cartouche, a palmette at each end: ‘Garde Impériale’ between two anchors with rope; wooden scabbard covered in leather, three cut brass fittings at the ends, with rounded bevelled edges, pommel ending in a button surrounded by a classical dart; length 85.5 cm.
