Description
INDIA, 17th/18th century, Firangi (Al-faranji), a large straight-bladed sword with a fuller, probably made in Western Europe, Solingen (Germany); this type of Indian sword often featured blades manufactured in Europe and imported by the Portuguese, or produced locally in imitation of European blades. The hilt is forged from a single block of steel; it is straight and sturdy with a large, well-balanced guard, whilst the spherical pommel extends into a long point suitable for a two-handed grip, in fair condition (wear and pitting), blade length approx. 75 cm, overall length approx. 95 cm.
