Description
Mick Namarari Tjapaljarri (Pintupi) (1926-1998) Dingo Dreaming 1995 Acrylic on Belgian linen 133 x 93 cm Provenance: > Yapa Art, NT Kimberley Art, Vic > Art Leven [formerly Cooee Art], Gadigal (Sydney) Mick was one of the founders of the Western Desert painting movement and one of the eight influential painters who created the Papunya Tula community according to Geoff Bardon. He was one of those who painted in a very figurative way, but very quickly moved on to the very typical Papunya style of painting, with geometric motifs and traditional colours. The dingo is an emblematic animal of the Australian outback. It was often domesticated by Australian Aborigines, but otherwise lives wild in the bush. It occupies an important place in Australian Aboriginal culture and is an integral part of the creation of sites during the Dreamtime. There are many places of worship linked to the dingo throughout Australia, mainly in the north and centre. Many ceremonies are linked to this animal with songs, dances and paintings, including this one. MJ
