Description
Michelle Possum Nungurrayi (Luritja / Anmatyerre) (born 1968) Grandmother's country and bush tucker / Le pays de ma grand-mère et la nourriture de la brousse 2012 Acrylic on linen signed on the back 98 x 75 cm Provenance: > Commissioned by Peter Los (Melbourne) > Private collection Île-de-France Michelle is Clifford Possum's youngest daughter. Like her older sister Gabriella, Michelle paints the country and the stories of her father's mother Long Rose Nungala. She takes a topographical view of the land. The land is alive with dreamy trails that are followed at certain times of the year to harvest edible plants. She shows yams, berries, fruits and other vegetables that are harvested by the women of the tribe, usually by digging in the bush. The women are shown in a U-shape during their ceremonies of thanksgiving to the earth for the food it gives them. MJ
