Freddie Purla (Anmatyerre / Alyawarre) (born 1968) My Mother's Country / Le pays de ma mère 2020 Acrylic on Belgian linen canvas signed on the back 147 x 90 cm Provenance: > purchased directly from the artist by Art Leven [formerly Cooee Art], Gadigal (Sydney, NSW) Condition Report : Unmounted Freddie (Fred Torres) is the son of Barbara Weir and grandson of Minnie Pwerle. He is also the adopted nephew of Australia's greatest Aboriginal artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye. He began painting in 1989. As a child he spent a lot of time with his family in the Utopia region before moving to Alice Springs and Adelaide. In 1993 he established the Dacou Gallery (Dreaming Art Centre Of Utopia). His style is close to that of his mother and aunt Emily. His paintings are in numerous collections in Australia and many in Europe and the United States. Her mother's country is in the Utopia region, 300 km north-east of Alice Springs. MJ
