Freddie Purla (Anmatyerre / Alyawarre) (b. 1968) Bushfire in my Grandmother's Country 2020 Acrylic on Belgian linen signed and titled on reverse 122 x 84 cm Provenance: Dacou Gallery, S A, Art Leven [formerly Cooee Art], Gadigal (Sydney, NSW) Condition report : Unmounted Freddie (Fred Torres) is the son of Barbara Weir and grandson of Minnie. Pwerle. He is also the adopted nephew of Australia's greatest Aboriginal artist Emily Kame Kngwarreye. He began painting in 1989. As a child he spent a lot of time with his family in the Utopia region and later moved to Alice Springs and Adelaide. In 1993 he set up the Dacou Gallery (Dreaming Art Centre Of Utopia). His style is close to that of his mother and aunt Emily. His paintings are in numerous collections in Australia and many in Europe and the United States. Her mother's country is in the Utopia region, 300 km north-east of Alice Springs. The dream of the bush fire is one of the most important in Australian Aboriginal culture.
