Description
Ningura Napurrula (Ngaatjatjarra) (c.1938-2013) Women's Ceremony / Cérémonies de femmes 2010 Acrylic on linen canvas 90 x 60 cm Provenance: > Commissioned by Territory Art
> Private collection, France
A certificate from Territory Art will be given with the work. Ningura illustrates body paintings associated with women's ceremonies in her region, Lake McKay, Western Australia. These are a series of shallow salt lakes and clay pans. Digging sticks are shown, along with a series of natural wells providing access to fresh water. Parallel lines indicate the sand dunes. Ningura is a major artist who, along with several other Australian Aboriginal artists, took part in the architect's project to build the Quai Branly Jacques Chirac Museum. She painted the ceilings of the administrative departments above the museum shop, which is visible from the rue de l'Université.
