Condition report: Minor wear to the alabaster leaves Applique mouche LA 415, 1924, made for the Grand Hôtel de Tours.
Pierre Chareau's work on the Grand Hôtel de Tours was commissioned by Paul Bernheim. The aim was for the city to have a building that could be a showcase for modern French art and luxury. A large number of Mouche sconces can be found in the hotel's main room, the salle des fêtes. This is a variant of the Mouche sconce, model LA548, without the iron plate. According to one critic, the party room was empty, cold and bare, but this effect was dispelled by the lights. "From bottom to top, on the side walls, the Mouche lights are spread out, which, at night, make you think of a sky dotted with stars and, during the day, the flight of a multitude of birds.
As with other creations by Pierre Chareau, the LA 415 wall lights, designed for the Grand Hôtel de Tours, were used to decorate the Club House at Beauvallon.
