Interior scene
Oil on canvas.
H_46 cm W_60.5 cm
Re-stretched, varnish heavily oxidised, restorations.
Substantial moulded frame.
This painting features subjects dear to Scheffer, imbued with both a romantic chiaroscuro and a Flemish influence. The subject also clearly contrasts the old age of the evidently important man at the centre of the composition with the youth of the figures surrounding him.
