The artist who produced these charming drawings is Louise Antoinette Philippe. Born in Geneva, she was the daughter of Jean Adrien Philippe (1815–1894), co-founder of the Patek Philippe watchmaking firm, and Anne Marie Bailly (1832–1851). At the time of her marriage on 18 October 1875 in her hometown to Joseph Antoine Barthélemy Benassy (1850–1906), she was living in Champel, in the municipality of Plainpalais. It is likely that the surrounding countryside is depicted in these drawings. She had one daughter, Lucie Marie Elise Benassy (1891–1976).
