Landscape with the Temptation of Christ
oil on canvas mounted on board
32.3 x 45 cm
To deceive Christ, the Devil takes the form of a monk or hermit wearing a brown habit. He can be recognised in this composition by his horns. The box he is holding could be a casket symbolising the third temptation, when the Devil offers Jesus all the riches and kingdoms of the world.
