An Italian painter born in Pisa, he began painting abstract compositions after the war. In 1950, he moved to Milan and embarked on an expression in which the use of stains was widely applied. These works were presented in October 1951 at the Galleria Numero in Florence. They constituted the first demonstration of informal art in Italy. They became known as "nuclear art".
Bertini travelled extensively throughout Europe, holding solo exhibitions in Brussels, Copenhagen, Schiedam and Amsterdam, and he left for the United States to work with the Gres Gallery in Chicago.
