Foundation for the information kindly provided regarding the provenance of this piece of jewellery. This piece is a head ornament worn on the forehead, around the hair, in the style of women in ancient Greece or Egypt. According to the family tradition of the sellers, confirmed by the Takis Foundation, this piece of jewellery is said to have been worn during an official visit to Kyoto in 1984, whilst Melina Mercouri was Minister of Culture. The Melina Mercouri Foundation, contacted in October 2026, asked us to convey its doubts regarding the veracity of the provenance and whether this piece of jewellery was in fact worn by Melina Mercouri during that trip.
