Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda (born 1991) *Indefinito* 2017 Blown glass H. 80 cm For his first solo exhibition, Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda created a site-specific installation for the eponymous Alma Zevi gallery in Venice. Created during the summer of 2017, this project is, to date, his largest and most ambitious work. Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda’s Murano glass sculptures are characterised by architecturally structured compositions in which monumentality interacts with an intensely tactile material. Their surfaces, rich in organic detail, invite both the eye and the touch, whilst their imposing weight lends them an almost sculptural presence and a certain physical inaccessibility. A subtle colourist, the artist combines ‘cotissi’ – fragments of coloured glass from the Murano glassmaking tradition – with remarkable freedom, applying them to the surface of his works to create reliefs evoking mineral landscapes. These textures alternate between perfectly polished facets and rougher areas, producing a striking contrast between smoothness, brilliance and roughness. By reinventing the use of cotissi through novel configurations, Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda positions his work at the cutting edge of contemporary glass art. Marcantonio Brandolini d’Adda lives and works in Venice. His career is all the more remarkable given that he only created his first glasswork at the start of 2016. Despite his recent entry into the medium, he has already exhibited his work at the Museo del Vetro in Murano.
