Beautiful coffee pot
Tibet circa 19th century
Copper and brass Height 29 cm
This beautiful jug is derived from the classical "monk's bonnet" shape which
inspired the creation of many Chinese porcelains from the Ming dynasty onwards.
Ming dynasty.
The hammered copper body rests on a lotiform brass foot. The shoulder
is embellished with two brass side handles and applications of
three ornamental silver plates. The largest in the centre
features a Kirtimukha above a crescent moon.
Large teapots of this type could have been used in monasteries,
but the smaller ones could also have been used to serve beer in secular
in secular homes.
