Amitayus China, Qianlong period, second half of the 18th century Gilded copper alloy Height 18.5 cm Classical representation of Amitayus richly adorned and crowned, seated in vajrasana on a rectangular architectural base, hands in dhyana mudra dhyana mudra that originally held the vase containing the liquor of immortality of immortality (Amrita). It was originally leaning against to a mandorla. This sculpture is part of a well-known body of work produced during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Some examples are dated 1760-1770.
