CHINA, Ming Dynasty
Set of two gilt-lacquered bronze subjects
Representing dignitaries seated on thrones, originally holding command tablets in both hands. The faces are concentrated, the eyes half-closed, the beards long, and the heads girded with the characteristic dignitary headdresses. They are dressed in long robes with wide pleats, one of them with floral motifs carved into the edges. The thrones are red lacquered and the subjects partially gold lacquered.
