Taking the form of a Luduan, the body in turquoise glazed ceramic, showing fur and decorative details moulded in relief. The carved wooden lid takes the form of the chimera's head, depicted with a wrathful expression, its eyes bulging out, its mouth open to reveal two rows of fangs, and its imposing mane in a scroll pattern. The whole resting on a wooden base carved in imitation of rocks and lingzhi mushrooms.
Height (total): 32 cm
Width: 21 cm
(The wooden lid has been restored, the base is slightly missing)
Provenance: An old label affixed to the underside of the object stating "N° 91: Bender collection" might suggest that it came from the Asian art collection assembled by Albert Bender, an important Irish-American collector, whose works were bequeathed in the 1930s.
