Description
Alexandre OULINE (1918–1940), (after),
A glazed terracotta sculpture depicting a bare-chested fisherman, clad only in a simple, rolled-up loincloth, in a position of violent, unbalanced strain, pulling with both hands a fishing net whose meshes extend to the edge of the terrace. The composition, full of tension and diagonal lines, with the body thrown back and the legs bent at the knees to counter the strain, demonstrates a precise naturalistic observation of anatomy in motion. The terrace, depicted as stylised rocks battered by waves, anchors the scene in a maritime setting.
The sculpture rests on a separate, moulded, oval-shaped plinth made of mahogany-stained wood.
