Description
A porcelain plate from the ‘Green Family’ series, decorated with butterflies and flowers, China, Kangxi period (1662–1722)
Rectangular in shape, the plate is decorated with two butterflies flying above flowers and foliage taking root in flat, overlapping and interlocking rocks. The scene is framed along the edge of the plate by a band featuring a motif of butterflies and flowers against a background of small black dots. The reverse, left unglazed, features a network of raised ribs forming a compartmentalised structure, presumably intended to reinforce the plate and facilitate its mounting or fixing.
