Description
Two large Buddhist lions in sancai-glazed biscuit porcelain, China, Kangxi period (1662–1722)
Glazed in green, yellow and aubergine, the lions sit on openwork rectangular plinths, their heads turned to the right and their mouths open, revealing their fangs and tongues. One rests its right paw on its cub, the other on an openwork ball. Several old collection labels under each base.
Height: 42 and 43 cm
One is broken and has been re-glued. There are losses to one tongue, the fangs and the curls of the manes; the bases are damaged.
