Description
Porcelain plate decorated in grisaille and gold with a scene of two women in a garden, China, Yongzheng period, 18th century
The scene depicts two richly dressed young women in a garden enclosed by a balustrade, in the shade of a majestic weeping willow. They are standing near a hollowed-out rock serving as a table, upon which rest a fan, a vase adorned with lotus flowers and a bowl containing a peach. One of them, seated, delicately holds the tip of her fan, whilst the other, standing, waves a ribbon tied to a stick to amuse a small dog that is looking at her with its mouth open. Beside them, a young boy proudly holds a small windmill.
Diameter: 23.5 cm
Signs of wear to the gilding.
