Description
Doucai glazed porcelain dish decorated with a dragon, China, 19th century
Circular in shape with a flared rim, the centre of the dish is decorated within a double circle glazed in blue, enclosing a sinuous dragon with scales and five claws glazed in iron-red. In pursuit of the sacred pearl, its mouth agape, it is surrounded by flames and clouds evoking ruyi heads. On the reverse of the marli, two dragons, enamelled in yellow and pale green, run along the rim, each in pursuit of a flaming pearl against the same background of flames and clouds. At the base is an apocryphal mark of Yongzheng comprising six characters in kaishu script within a double blue circle.
Diameter: 27 cm
A beaded border.
