Description
Snuff bottle in green and beige jadeite, China, 1760–1850 Rectangular in shape with rounded shoulders, carved from two-coloured nephrite, the bottle is sculpted in very shallow relief on the opaque beige section to depict a large rock and trees near a body of water, where two figures are rowing in a boat. The other side features a very thin layer of brilliant green nephrite, which lies flush with and follows the contours of the bottle. It rests on an oval foot. The stopper is made of coral and topped with a pearl. Height: 5.6 cm Provenance: Millon-Jutheau auction, Hôtel Drouot, 2 July 1984, lot no. 122 (illustrated).
