Description
Five-compartment lacquered inro decorated with pine trees and cherry blossoms, Japan, Edo period, 19th century
Made of kinji lacquer, decorated with gold and silver takamaki-e and kirikane, featuring a continuous design on both sides depicting a landscape of pine trees and cherry blossoms. The foreground is brought to life by pine trees, whose sinuous trunks stand out against the hills. Numerous cherry trees are in full bloom. The relief of the terrain is suggested by mounds. On one side, near the base, a stream winds its way between the rocks. A small waterfall cascades into water churned by gentle eddies. The interior is finished in nashiji lacquer. Signed below as ‘Kajikawa saku’ – 梶川作 – accompanied by a red studio seal in the shape of an archaic-style vase.
8.7 x 5 cm
In good overall condition; some kirikane elements are missing.
