Description
Two kozuka, Japan, Edo period (1603–1868)
- One made of iron, decorated in iroe takazogan with a scene of two peasants braving the rain; one under a split bangasa, the other entirely covered by a mino, a straw raincoat worn by peasants. Length: 9.5 cm. Dented on the reverse and showing very slight wear. - The other is made of shibuichi, chiselled in slight relief and inlaid with hira zogan and taka zogan in gold and silver, depicting a fox disguised as a woman, with part of a torii gate inlaid in shakudo on the reverse. Probably a reference to the Kuzunoha legend. On the reverse, a barely legible engraved signature which could read 東柳軒主兼隨 – Kaneyuki, master of Tōryūken. Length: 10 cm
Slightly worn on the reverse.
