Condition report: Framed A pioneer of abstract art and the Dada movement, Jean Arp is known for his sculptures with organic forms, inspired by nature, as well as for his abstract collages and reliefs.
In his ‘Constellations’ series, created from the 1930s to the 1940s, Arp composed works made up of free-form, rounded shapes, arranged in space like stars in the sky. These abstract compositions convey the impression of a universe in motion, reminiscent of the cosmos and natural forms.
Through the ‘Constellations’, he sought to create a poetic art based on chance, balance and the simplicity of forms, moving away from any realistic representation.
