Description
Dominique Fury, Dominique Jeantet (known as) (born 1956) & Hondo (born in 1972) Iceland Spray paint on canvas, signed and titled on the reverse of the canvas 147 x 114 cm Dominique Fury, a self-taught artist born in 1956 in Paris, creates paintings, screen prints, photographs, videos and installations. After spending three years in New York, where she was involved in the underground scene, notably at Andy Warhol’s Factory, she returned to France, founded the punk band LUV and joined the Bazooka collective, whilst learning screen-printing in the 1970s.
Describing herself as a ‘cyber-punk’, she uses images from the press, fragments of text and reproductions of artworks, which she manipulates, collages and layers, in the tradition of Pop Art.
Aurore Pierlot, a gallery owner, considers that, much like street art or graffiti, Dominique Fury produces original work that represents a popular and accessible side of art.
She has produced series of works in collaboration with artists such as Jacques Monory, Philippe Waty, Hondo, Jérôme Ménager and Chanoir.
