Description
Robert Combas (born 1957) Abel and Cain. It is not clear exactly how one killed the other. I opted for a stone – a big boulder, as we say round here. It’s a choice. Simple and feasible, but the killer could have done it differently. A truncheon, a knife – anything was possible within the limits of what was available. In any case, there was a murderer and he got away with it, more or less. circa 1993 Acrylic on canvas, signed lower right 138 x 138 cm The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Robert Combas archives. Condition report: Pins holes at the corners; not mounted on a stretcher Robert Combas is a leading figure in contemporary art and one of the founding members of the ‘Figuration Libre’ movement, which emerged in the 1980s. In contrast to the austerity of Minimalist and Conceptual art of the 1970s, the artists of this movement favoured figurative, colourful, graphic works that drew on popular art.
