Estimate €2,500 - €3,500
Description
Dado (1933–2010) Phlamen rose (Pink Flamingo), 1968 Graphite and Indian ink on paper Signed, dated and located in the lower left-hand corner Titled at the top centre 65 x 50 cm Provenance: Paul and Jacqueline Canfrère Collection Note: Dado often wrote phonetically to make his work easier to understand, hence the spelling of the title. The abbreviation ‘HER’ for Hérouval can also be seen on this work. Of particular note here is the depiction of a skeletal bird with a piercing gaze, shown in profile. Dado plays with the negative space, which is particularly striking here, for example in the outline of the nose or the figure’s face (forehead, eyes, nose). We would like to thank Ms Amarante Szidon for the information she has kindly provided us with regarding this work.
