Note:
The handwritten note in pencil at the bottom of the sheet, ‘Para mi buen amigo Jaume Puch / Barcelona 1974’, is most likely addressed to Jaume Puch. A Catalan restaurateur and hotelier based in the Empordà region — notably associated with the historic Hostal Sol Ric in Cadaqués — Puch was a close associate of Salvador Dalí and Gala’s circle. Frequently called upon to organise their receptions in Portlligat, he enjoyed a sincere friendship with the master. It was therefore customary for the artist to present his close friends with studio proofs or personalised books as a token of his gratitude. On this print, Dalí transformed the proof into a unique composition by adding, in ink and wash, a shoreline, a second signature and this warm dedication. The presence of Jaime Puch’s name thus constitutes a valuable indication of direct provenance, attesting to the piece’s deep-rooted local and personal connections.
