Description
Jacques GRÜBER (1870–1936). A pair of rectangular stained-glass panels executed in shades of grey on glass, depicting two complementary views of a Vosges mountain landscape rendered in shades of violet and purple against a background of a pale, iridescent sky. The left-hand panel depicts a valley with a river winding between mountainous contours obscured by mist, lined with silhouetted firs and poplars; the right-hand panel, signed ‘Jacques Grüber, Nancy’ in the bottom right-hand corner, depicts a view of fir tree undergrowth in the foreground, with the same mist-shrouded mountainous horizon in the background; the two panels most likely form a diptych designed to be viewed side by side, perhaps taken from a larger set of window or door panels. Circa 1900 H_33 cm x W_47 cm. Slight wear and tear. Provenance: Mansion in the Meuse department. Expert: Mr Marc LALLEMENT. - Expert: Marc LALLEMENT
