Description
Émile GALLE (1846–1904),
A significant ceremonial ball-shaped vase with an open neck and ribbed, smoked-coloured glass, decorated with a crowned salamander, executed in polychrome enamels (kiln-fired jewellery).
Its surface is adorned with a polychrome and gilded enamelled design of a heraldic nature, depicting the coat of arms of Luxembourg, featuring a fire-breathing dragon surmounted by a crown.
The neck is adorned with an elegant frieze of floral scrolls, punctuated by fantastical birds against a striated background.
Bears the signature ‘Émile Gallé de Nancy comp. + Lorraine cross G registered’.
