Very nice presentation.
Born in Uzès in the 19th century, the liquorice industry developed from 1856 onwards. In 1863, Henri Lafont sold the factory to his sons-in-law Henri Abauzit and Léonce Vincent, who developed liquorice production under the management of Alphonse Perdrix.
The company became Abauzit, Perdrix et Aubrespy in 1873, then Abauzit & Aubrespy in 1882.
The Zan trademark was registered in 1884.
Anecdotally, Paul Aubrespy heard a lisping child ask: "Z'en veux, Maman, donne-moi-z'en!", which inspired the brand name.
Specialising in liquorice confectionery, it enjoyed great success before becoming part of the Haribo group in 1987.
