Description
CACHOU LAJAUNIE - between about 1900 and 1950.
Rare collection of 18 original lithographed advertising boxes. Between 4 and 5 cm in diameter.
There are four addresses in Toulouse: "54, rue Alsace-Lorraine, 42 bis rue de Cugnaux, 76, rue de la Colombette, 19 rue d'Aubuisson".
The prices on the boxes varied according to the period, from 0.50 Fr to 3 Francs.
Two of them (one of which is called a half-box) are made of aluminium, a Second World War production linked to the metal economy.
- Good condition.
Created in 1880 by the pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille, presented in its emblematic round yellow tin.
Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters.
Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024.
