A mandarin-based aperitif created around 1910 by the Cusenier company, its name comes from its orange colour, reminiscent of the clothes worn by bonzes and mandarins in ancient China.
Eugène CUSENIER founded the Grande Distillerie in Ornans in 1857, specialising in spirits (absinthe, kirsch, liqueurs). The company enjoyed rapid international growth, with numerous establishments in France and abroad. Awarded a prize at the 1889 Universal Exhibition (out of competition), it became one of the most famous French brands of its time. 1977: acquisition of BYRRH, now part of the Pernod Ricard group.
