CHARGEURS RÉUNIS & SUD ATLANTIQUE - 1927 Signed "H.Gervèse" (Charles Millot) Rare original Russian offset printed advertising card. 49.7 x 35.5 cm. "Signed "Money G.R Paris Very good condition - complete with calendar. Very good colours, softened corners. These shipping companies operated between "Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, West Africa, Indochina" "Compagnie Françaises de navigation à vapeur". LES CHARGEURS RÉUNIS: Founded in 1872 in Le Havre by the banker Jules Vignal, the Compagnie de navigation des Chargeurs Réunis developed regular shipping lines to Brazil with its steamships. After coming under the control of Compagnie Fabre in 1927, it was strengthened by several mergers in the 1960s (SGTM, Fraissinet, Paquet, Union navale) and took part in the creation of Union de transports aériens (UTA) in 1963. Bought by Jérôme Seydoux in 1980 and renamed "Chargeurs" in 1983, it then diversified into textiles and communications. SUD-ATLANTIQUE: founded in 1912, it operates shipping lines between France and South America (mail, freight and passengers). It came under the control of Compagnie des Chargeurs Réunis after the First World War, and was gradually integrated into this group. It ceased trading in 1962 when the lines were taken over by Messageries Maritimes. Charles Millot, known as Henri Gervèse (1880-1959): French naval officer, painter and illustrator. A former student at the Naval Academy, he served in the Far East and during the First World War before being appointed official painter to the Navy in 1921. After settling in Argentina in 1930, he worked with Chargeurs Réunis and made a name for himself with his often humorous illustrations and postcards inspired by maritime life.
