History A Russian painter who trained at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg, Ivan Savinov was appointed Academician in 1859. His work, which is rare, is mainly known through a few identified portraits, notably the "Portrait of the Treasurer of the Academy of Fine Arts, Mr Obraztsov" (1859), as well as life studies executed in the 1850s. Remaining outside the major artistic movements of the end of the century, he belonged to a generation of academic artists who are rarely represented and whose works very rarely appear on the market.
