Watercolour and ink on paper, signed lower left in graphite "Alexandre Benois" and annotated on the back "Ariane pour Ida / 1ere idée". On the back are labels from galleries in Basel and Cologne. Framed.

History
The annotation on the back of the work "Pour Ida" in the artist's hand most probably refers to Ida Rubinstein (1883-1960). Alexandre Benois and Ida Rubinstein were closely linked through their involvement in the Ballets Russes, where they contributed to a profound renewal of stage aesthetics in the early 20th century.
