Description
Abo, Cameroon, Rare male ancestor figure, wood, H. 40 cm – W. 12 cm (on a plinth). A rare figure created by an Abo artist living in southern Cameroon, mysterious in appearance with a patina suggesting it has been venerated through numerous libations. We have little information regarding its exact function. Our statue is similar to one sold at Christie’s Paris on 19 June 2014, as well as another featured in J.B. Bacquart’s book *L’art Tribal d’Afrique noire*, page 107.
