Rooney, Bencharong, Chinese Porcelain for Siam, Bangkok, 2017.In this fascinating and informative publication, the author addresses many aspects of ceramic production, decoration, object function and the history of trade between China and Siam. To paraphrase her own words, she points out that these porcelains are easily recognisable thanks to their bright colours applied to white glazed porcelain; decoration covering the entire surface, leaving no blank spaces; subjects depicting mythical creatures from Buddhist and Hindu traditions, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation; geometric floral motifs; and often gilding highlights.
