Description
A rare Chinese ‘figure’ ink painting, by ‘Feng Ji’ (冯箕)
The work depicts a scholar meditating by a willow-lined bank, attended by two ladies – a typical motif of literati leisure from the Qing Dynasty – rendered with delicate brushwork and restrained colouring. It bears a red seal reading ‘Seal of Feng Ji’s Paintings’. A label on the backing board identifies it as a figure scroll by Feng Ji of the Qing Dynasty. Feng Ji, whose artistic name was Qixia, was a native of Qiantang and specialised in figure and beauty paintings. The painting bears the inscription ‘Painted by the West Lake Qixia Guest’.
Early 19th century, L: 190 x 63 cm. Good condition.
