Description
Islamic art in the Mughal style
A circular bowl in dark green jasper, finely polished, with a wide rim and slightly hollowed central basin, entirely decorated with engraved and gilded stylised Arabic calligraphy. The rim features a continuous frieze of epigraphy executed in thuluth, and the central basin also features Qur'anic verses. The entire decoration is engraved and then enhanced with gilding. On the outer ring is inscribed Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim 'In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful', which corresponds to the Ayat al-Kursi (verse of the Throne, sura Al-Baqarah 2:255). In the centre, the circular composition is an interlacing of the name of Allah.
