BRESSE. A so-called ‘tournure’ dress in Lyon-style silk, circa 1880–1885. Damask fabric with a brown ground, decorated with black floral bouquets. Boned bodice, pleated at the back, stand-up collar, pleated cuffs on brown silk sleeves; puffed skirt on a loose, pleated hoop, over a raised petticoat, with gathered muslin at the sleeves and neckline. (Probably made from the remains of an older dress).
