Wakizashi (sword), Japan, Edo period, lacquered wooden saya, decorated with takamaki-e and hiramaki-e designs of a phoenix amongst wisteria on a black background, metal blade signed 清光 (Kiyomitsu), fuchi-kashira, kojiri and kurikata decorated with flowers on a nanako ground, stingray-skin tsuka, with two metal menuki, one in the shape of a samurai, the other in the shape of Hotei, metal tsuba in mokko gatta style, decorated with a carp amidst waves on a nanako ground, length approx. 45 cm (from kissaki to mune machi), total length 61 cm (blade). With a kozuka (knife) featuring a handle decorated with a playful karako against a nanako ground, the blade signed, and a metal kogai decorated with objects used in the tea ceremony, against a nanako ground (* For this lot, the VAT payable by the buyer is calculated on the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, totalling 35.13% inclusive of VAT.)
