Paris, published by Christian Wechel, 1536, folio, 6 folios. – 320 pp. – 4 pp., full contemporary stamped calfskin, double blind-stamped border on the covers, ribbed spine, clasp (restored binding, spine rebuilt, one clasp missing). FIRST EDITION OF THE FRENCH TRANSLATION of Vegetius’s treatise on military art. Translated by Nicole Volkyr de Sérouville. Illustrated with approximately 124 large full-page woodcut plates, including 2 repeated plates depicting war machines. Printer’s mark on the title page and the final leaf. Plate 23/24 is a facsimile.
