Description
KOREA, late 19th-early 20th century Lacquered wood cabinet, Nong Of quadrangular form with two bodies, opening with four small doors on each of the fronts, sliding doors on the inside of one. The entire front is decorated with fine mother-of-pearl inlays on a black Kkeuneumjil lacquer background, with floral motifs in honeycomb friezes. The central part of each door is decorated with longevity characters in medallions. The upper part features a landscape décor, depicting pavilions and boats in a lakeside landscape, with the same décor repeated on the sides. The whole piece has ornate brass fittings with floral and symmetrical shapes: hinges, corner reinforcements and a large central closing plate in the shape of a taegeuk (태극).
